Mass. home sales up again in January: 7th straight month

Today we issued our January 2012 housing numbers and for the 7th straight month home sales were up compared to the same time last year, while  condominium home sales were down slightly from January 2011.

Single-family median prices were down from January 2011 and from this past December, while condominium median prices were up slightly from last year and down from December 2011. (see graphs below)

Year-end:
Single-family home sales in 2011 were down less than two percent from 2010. Condominium sales were down six percent. Median prices were down for single-family homes, but up for condominiums.

Highlights from the release:

* Single-family home sales were up 3.7% compared to last year
* Single-family median prices were down 5.0%
* Condo sales were down 0.6% compared to the same time last year
* The median price for a condo was up 0.3% compared to last year
