MAR President Peter Ruffini represented MAR at ‘Rail to Boston Coalition’ press conference at South Station

If you happened to be walking through South Station this morning, you might have caught the Boston-area launch press conference of the “Rail to Boston Coalition” advocacy campaign to re-establish the commuter rail connection to Southeastern Massachusetts. MAR President Peter Ruffini represented the state REALTOR® Association and supported the goal of connecting the train lines.

“The Massachusetts Association of REALTORS® applauds the South Coast Rail project. This type of infrastructure development fosters smart growth opportunities and impacts a segment of the housing market that needs it the most – work force housing. Not only will this help to alleviate traffic congestion along the Rt. 24 corridor, but it will make that area accessible to prospective home owners that would otherwise consider the area too far away. Along with this there will be many economic benefits as this is also the type of improvement that attracts new businesses and helps to create jobs. This is a win for the South Coast and for Massachusetts.” – Peter Ruffini

In addition to Peter Ruffini, featured speakers included:

  • Paul Chasse, Co-chair and CEO of Greater New Bedford Association of REALTORS®;
  • Roy Nascimento, Co-chair and President of New Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce;
  • Richard A. Davey, Mass DOT Secretary and Chief Executive Officer;
  • State Representative William M. Straus
  • Fall River Mayor William A. Flanagan
  • New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell; and
  • Taunton Mayor Tom Hoye
