On Thursday, February 9, we released the results of our 2011 Profile of Massachusetts Home Buyers & Sellers Report. The study found that 94% of both home buyers and sellers worked with a real estate professional in the buying or the selling of their home in 2011. One of the most interesting facts we found was that despite what is being reported in terms of the high number of foreclosures and short sales, only 3% of sellers cited not being able to afford their home as a reason to sell.
Some other highlights include:
- Primary reason to buy a home? Top answer (36 percent) “desire to own a home”
- 19 percent of buyers were single females vs. 11 percent single males
- Median age of a first-time home buyer was 32
- Median age of a home seller was 51
