REALTOR® Day on the Hill Briefing: Regulation of Debt Management Services

This is the fifth in a series of blog posts familiarizing members with the issues we will bring to the State House at REALTOR® Day on Beacon Hill next week. See our blog for the previous issues.

REALTORS® Support the Regulation of Debt Management Services – H.3569 An Act relative to the licensing of debt management services in the Commonwealth

The bill H.3569 seeks to prohibit people from engaging in or advertising debt management services in Massachusetts unless they are licensed to do so. Indeed, this would protect vulnerable consumers from predatory practices. However, the bill as originally drafted may have included real estate brokers who work with sellers on short sales. MAR successfully advocated for an amendment that creates an exception for real estate brokers and salespersons working in this capacity.

Ask your Senator to urge the Senate Committee on Ways & Means to SUPPORT H.3569 as amended at REALTOR® Day on Beacon Hill.

2014 MAR President Peter Ruffini invites you to REALTOR® Day on Beacon Hill, where REALTORS® will have a chance to network and learn about the key legislative issues that will affect the real estate industry and private property in 2014. Attend the REALTOR® Day on the Hill and make an impact on the legislative process. Check out the video.
