Attention Massachusetts REALTORS®: Are you going to Day on the Hill next week at the State House? If so, here is the first in a series of posts to help you get to know the issues you will be speaking on with your state elected officials.

REALTORS® Support Copper Pipe Theft Prevention – S.1929 An Act regulating secondary metals dealing
Copper theft hit the US like an epidemic during the recession, and has showed little signs of slowing down. This is a problem, as homes stripped of their wiring, piping, and other fixtures are unattractive to buyers, unmarketable for mortgage loan qualifications purposes, and a huge safety issue. There is currently an act awaiting action by the House of Representatives (S.1929) which seeks to halt and reverse copper theft by creating a second-hand metal dealer registry, which would require scrap metal dealers to keep a log of the information from all transactions. Transparency within this industry would become a disincentive to strip houses for salvage metal.

Ask your legislature to SUPPORT copper theft prevention at REALTOR® Day on Beacon Hill.

2014 MAR President Peter Ruffini invites you to REALTOR® Day on Beacon Hill, where REALTORS® will have a chance to network and learn about the key legislative issues that will affect the real estate industry and private property in 2014. Attend the REALTOR® Day on the Hill and make an impact on the legislative process. Check out the video.
